CASA aims to fill gaps - we try
to offer services to meet the
changing needs of the community, and avoid duplication of the work
done by other agencies. We work closely with other agencies to
better serve our aging and homebound population. Presently, CASA's
efforts are focused on the following areas:
Ramps - CASA designs and builds
ramps for wheelchair-dependent clients. Pressure-treated lumber is
used, and the ramps follow ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)
Guidelines.
Adaptive Equipment - Installation
of grab bars or other items that promote independence. CASA of
Limestone County has developed a design for special "oversized"
steps intended for clients using a walker.
Transportation - Volunteer
drivers use their own vehicles to transport CASA clients for doctor
appointments and other medical needs. Advance notice of at least
three working days is requested. Clients must be able to get in and
out of a vehicle without assistance.
TEMP$ (Taking Energy Measures
Personally = $avings) - Annual
home
winterization project. TEMP$ team activities
may include covering windows and AC units with
plastic, installing smoke alarms, testing/replacing smoke alarm
batteries, weather-stripping, and pipe insulation.
Minor Chores - Household chores
such as small repair jobs and occasional yard work.
Telephone Reassurance - Daily
call at an established time to check on the client's general welfare
or health and to ensure that needs are being met.
CASA staff coordinate volunteers
to provide the above services. Staff provide training and
professional back-up to volunteers, and also assist clients directly
in the following areas:
Case Management - Individual,
one-on-one service of coordinating care for clients by assessing
needs, developing plans, and arranging services.
Information & Referral -
Providing information about community resources and making referrals
to other agencies to ensure that clients receive necessary services.
CASA of Limestone County serves
residents of Limestone County. Care Assurance System for the Aging
and Homebound also exists in four other counties in North Alabama.
Each agency is independent in terms of funding and staffing, but all
CASA organizations have the same goal and offer similar services.
